An impromptu-hanging turned into a complex pull-out-the-tape-measure, mark-the-wall-and-do-math moment between my father and I. After a few mis-placed pegs and some leveling, I hopped back to the doorway to see how it came out.
“Come here!” I shouted to Dad.
We stood in the doorway, my hand on his shoulder, taking in the colorful artwork on the wall. Six years ago, if you told me my bedroom would be decorated with paintings I’d done myself, I would have laughed at you and reminded you of my dismal artistic abilities.
Now? “I made all that,” I whispered.”
“That’s a good job, Samie. Good job.”
We had tears in our eyes.
When was the last time you celebrated your art? What milestones have gone by that you ignored because you weren’t satisfied with where you were in your artistic journey?
As Sara Barellies sings, “Compare where you are to where you want to be, and you'll get nowhere.”
So where are you?
