Three years ago, I developed crippling panic attacks, an anxiety disorder, & the foggy world of post-concussive syndrome. In the middle of all the chaos, I discovered a fundamental need for two things: positive reinforcement + mindfulness.
I've loved writing since I could first craft stories, and, as an avid art journaler, had discovered the joy that comes from writing with ink. Over the past seven years, I've practiced hand-lettering both in my journal and on canvas, and felt it might be able to help me be more centered.
Fast forward to the second half of 2014 - present day. I suffered a breakdown and had to be hospitalized, where I was officially diagnosed with anxiety and depression. I learned the importance of simple, calming tasks, and began to focus on lettering favorite uplifting quotes, song lyrics, and advice as a way to calm and center myself. My phone became filled with quotes I'd found, waiting in an invisible queue to be written out.
It was after a long set of lettering quotes that someone asked for those sheets of brown paper and black letters so they could be framed. Until that moment, I thought my meditations with ink were helpful to myself only, & never considered the idea that others could also use some uplifting words, too!
That's how Inspiration Ink was born - out of a genuine need to navigate the storms in my own life & the desire to help others make it through. Now, I write, edit, and print posters and prints of my inked creations, spreading that calm, positive energy wherever I can.
